My First Korean Pop CD Experience!
The 2nd of May 2015 has become a historic moment for me – today was the day I finally got my first Korean Pop CD!! Last month (April 2015), EXO released an amazing album, and I couldn’t just download their music – I had to show my support for EXO, and the K-Pop world, one way or another. Thanks to the Facebook Group I am a member of (South African’s Who Love K-Pop), getting EXO’s latest album was made possible!!
The Order Details
How the order came about was really interesting. Other members in this facebook group were talking about how great the album was and how EXO has really done it. After hearing all that, I went and downloaded EXO’s new album, gave it a couple of listens, and I fell in love with the album!! Hearing news of EXO winning music shows, one after the other, was music to my ears. I could hear that EXO has really put in a lot of work and time into this album and it has paid off! Because so many members in the Facebook group wanted to get hold of the album, a “Mass EXO CD-Order” took place. I can’t remember the exact figure, but there was more than 11 of us ordering the CD as a group.
The cost each member had to pay was R330 (this would be a figure just above $33 USD). The price I paid is not too bad, seeing as it covered the shipping costs, as well as postage from the kind woman who made the mass order a success. I initially wanted the Chanyeol cover, but due to demand being too high, I went and chose the Chen version 🙂
After the CD’s had arrived in South Africa, the woman who received them posted an update, informing us of the great news, and collected our postage addresses so the goods can be sent. I was delighted to hear the CD’s had reached South Africa – this meant it would be a couple of days till I am united with my bundle of joy! Everyone was given a tracking number, to track their CD’s – I would check my parcel status at least three times a day (I even had E-Mail notifications setup)
The CD’s Arrival
After seeing news of my CD being at the Post Office in my neighborhood, I moved, with haste, to get my hands on my goods! I want to get a good hour of gym, but apparently, the gym closes on long weekends 🙁 I walked to the Post Ofiice, carrying my ID card and my tracking number. I gave the woman working at the counter my tracking number and my ID card. She walked to the back of her store, and a few seconds later, my package is there!!!! I walked to the grocery store with a huge smile on my face, greeting every stranger I come across.
Unwrapping and Celebration Time!
The first order on my mind was to decrypt this envelope, and get united with my bundle of joy! The process didn’t take me more than a minute – I ripped off the sticky flap, then removed the sticker that keeps the bubble wrap on my CD. After all that was done, my child was in my hands!!
I couldn’t just leave things like this, I went and made myself a cup of coffee, had a bit of chocolate, and started playing the tracks on my laptop (which has some powerful speakers). While all this was happening, I opened up my WhatsApp and spread the wonderful news to everyone! Everyone was impressed, and that the statement the cleaners made about me, that I am apparently “high profile”, holds 😀
I had a friend come over that evening, we had two slices of cake, consumed a bag of chips (those calories will come and bite us later), and we had the album (Exodus) pumping!! My friend wants some of the songs album! My favorite line that night was:
“You don’t have a CD, shame sweety. This sh*t flew on a plane. Have you been on a plane? I don’t think so”
Reporting Back To The Group
To express my gratitude and joy, I made a post on the Facebook Group, that I had received my goods and I been rocking the CD the entire day (and literally, EXO was the only group I listened to that day). I posted my EXO album pictures to the Facebook Group, and to sweeten it, I posted my celebratory selfie (this has now become my profile picture on various platforms).
