Backup and Restore Origin Games
Origin (at the moment) does not have a proper function to backup and restore your origin games. This can be a pain if you do not have fast internet to download the games again from Origin, or you have lost the discs for the games (that’s if you got or bought the discs). In cases like these, it is best to back up your installed origin games in case if you lose them from something. Here is how to do it:
Step 1: Go to the folder where your Origin Games are installed. (This is normally found under C:/Program Files(x86)/Origin Games/) . Once you have found the games that are installed, select them right click and select Copy.
Step 2: Take these files, and paste them into another Hard Drive, preferably an external Hard Drive. If you going to back up your files, it is best to store the backup on an external source and not on the computer’s hard drive(s).
Please note that Step 1 and 2 only show you how to back up your Origin Games. The next steps will show you how to restore them.
Restoring your games
Make sure you have Origin Installed. If you don’t, head over to www.origin.com and download the latest version.
Open up Origin. You will notice Origin will show you games that are available on your account in the form of icons or list (depends on which setting you picked).
Now, on each game, hover your mouse over the title’s and click the Download button. Accept any agreements and just download about 3MB or so of each game. After downloading the small amounts of data, pause all your downloads.
Now, head over to where the games will be Installed to. This is normally under [C:/Program Files(x86)/Origin Games] or [C:/Program Files/Origin Games]. If you are not sure, then on Origin, Click on Origin, then select Application Settings, then under Downloaded Games, it will show you where the games will be stored.
Once you have reached the location where the games are going to be downloaded and installed, go to where you had backed up the games, copy and paste them inside the folder where the games are going to be downloaded and installed. If it asks you to merge folders, say yes. If it says that the same file exists, select copy and replace.
Yes, this will take a while to copy and paste. After the files have finished coping into the folder where Origin would store the games, click resume on all your downloads. You should now see them all say 100% complete and Origin will now say “ready to play”.
Walla! And now you are done!
